2009 Summer Weather Outlook THE OVERVIEW Yes, it’s that time Central New York, the time you’ve all been waiting for. The approach of summer. And of course with that comes my summer outlook. Since producing my surprisingly accurate winter outlook a few months ago, I’ve added many new computer models, services, and graphics to my resource list. I also had the opportunity to obtain my official SkyWarn™ certification from the National Weather Service in February, which has expanded my knowledge of season-specific climate and weather patterns. This should help make not only these outlooks more accurate, but also all of the content you have come to know and trust on www.centralnewyorkweather.com. The research for this project was fairly extensive, and to condense it into a couple pages wasn’t easy. I hope you’ll find this outlook helpful in planning vacations and activities for Summer 2009. If you have any questions, comments, concerns, or would like to know more about this outlook or any of the sources, e-mail me at Metcalf.Carson@centralnewyorkweather.com.
WHAT WAS LOOKED AT
THE OUTLOOK JUNE 2009 Temperature • D AILY AVERAGE HIGH: 80 - 83° • DAILY AVERAGE LOW: 58 - 61°Precipitation • EXPECTED MONTH PRECIPITATION: 4.00” +
JULY 2009 Temperature • D AILY AVERAGE HIGH: 84 - 86° • DAILY AVERAGE LOW: 62 - 64°Precipitation • EXPECTED MONTH PRECIPITATION: ≈ 4.50”
AUGUST 2009 Temperature • D AILY AVERAGE HIGH: 82 - 84° • DAILY AVERAGE LOW: 61 - 63°Precipitation • EXPECTED MONTH PRECIPITATION: ≈ 4.00”
THE BOTTOM LINE For those of you who just want a simple, straightforward prediction for the upcoming summer season, this section is for you. Based on all the research that was done, I can predict that throughout summer 2009, central New York can expect slightly to moderately above average temperatures, and moderately to highly above average precipitation. Nearly five inches of rain per month could fall, which at this point in the year is much needed. And for counting ninety-degree days, I would say to look out for about five to seven this summer.
