Where Is All the Snow?

Blog Published: Monday, January 18, 2010 at 5:34 PM EST

Good evening everyone, thanks for stopping by tonight.  Just a quick note before my rant on the lack of snow, be sure to watch out for slippery roads late tonight into the day tomorrow as the risk for freezing drizzle has steadily increased as the temperature continues to fluctuate.  See the main page for the very latest updates.  Now, time for a little rant.  Like myself, a lot of you probably woke up this morning and had a look outside to see that there are visible signs of a January thaw.  You really shouldn't be able to see grass in Central New York in the heart of winter.  For all the local students (and teachers) out there looking for a snow day in the near future, it doesn't look like that's going to happen.  I look forward to your messages.  For most of the upcoming week, it's looking like we'll be sitting in the mid to upper-30s for temperatures with just a minimal chance for any snow.  Unfortunately, it looks like the conditions outside are beginning to deviate from my winter weather outlook that was released in October.  Hopefully we'll begin to head back into snowier times soon.  As for now, at least try to enjoy the warm weather, because it'll be gone before you know it.

The Highly Anticipated Winter Forecast

Blog Published: Sunday, October 25, 2009 at 3:18 PM EDT
Blog Updated: Sunday, October 25, 2009 at 3:18 PM EDT

Hi everyone, I hope you're having a great weekend.  On Friday as some of you may have gotten in your e-mail or seen on the web site, my winter forecast is now available.  You can go read the full report here.  The bottom line on the upcoming winter as I see it is this: expect the season to start out warm, and then become bone-chilling cold once the new year arrives, with an earlier return to warm weather than normal come late February.  As far as snowfall goes, I believe the entire winter will bring above-average snow levels to Central New York, not only in the form of lake-effect, but also coastal systems as well.  If you have any thoughts or questions on the reasoning behind the report or anything else at any time, be sure to e-mail me.  Thanks for stopping by, have a great week ahead!  Stay tuned.

Hello Again, Hello!

I recently purchased “Hot August Night II” from our Wal-Mart “Superstore”. The title of my blog is a song from the “live” album. I haven’t blogged for a while so here goes some thoughts on weather. I am a bike rider. I ride every day to help my asthma. I love riding in the hot sultry heat. Yesterday we had a day like that. October 3rd was probably my last ride for the season. When it is balmy and sunny on October 3rd, you have to take advantage of it. At forty-nine years of age, and with most of my days on Earth behind me, I went out riding with a vengeance. I had great rides. I have seen a lot this summer in the city of Fulton. I saw a girl walking her dog in a bikini. Talk about incentive to go riding! I mostly saw women with huge buttocks walking around the bridges. These women should rent space on their butts. They could earn a lot of donut money! By the way, earlier I said “days on earth”. It’s not like we go into outer space when we die. Our carcass is still here on bloody earth. We just get recycled. I will stop saying “days on earth”. It is a stupid statement. Now on to “Dancing With the Stars.” In my previous rants I mentioned the show to piss off my executive producer. I will continue to rate the show. I know Donny Osmond is on, and I will have an update next rant. Okay now to weather. We had a great summer. The past week we have had a lot of much needed rain. I have to mow the lawn one more time. Okay, look Central New Yorkers, if you want the real deal on weather, go to Carson’s sections on this site. Until my next blog, ˇAdios!

Changes to the Site

Blog Updated: Sunday, October 4, 2009 at 4:01 PM EDT

As you've found out by now in coming to this page, we've been making some structural changes to the web site.  We've now combined all of our separate blog pages into one large joint blog, to make it easier to get the very latest content from our many different contributors all across Central New York to you.  We hope that this new way of team blogging will be beneficial.  Other changes that have come include a new cosmetic look for our extreme weather section pages.  An idea of what each will look like can be gauged from the Severe Weather Center.  All other extreme weather sections will be redone soon.  Also, we're making progress in our On Demand section, which has become a popular place to get the weather information you need anytime, anywhere.  If you have any questions or comments about what's been happening, just send us an e-mail or a tweet.  Stay tuned!
