History |

The Central New York Weather Center got its start back in
2003, as the brainchild of aspiring meteorologist and webmaster
Carson Metcalf. Back then the weather source was called Weather Team 4, with a fourth grade audience, and 4 team
members at Lanigan Elementary School. It was a team effort to
update the website and post new weather information on a bulletin
board for students. Weather Team 5 began in late 2004, with a
fifth grade audience, and 5 members. Instead of going on with a
team, Carson decided
to start a weather service of his own. Coming up with the name and
mission of The
Central New York Weather Center took some time, but finally
it launched in 2005. Later that year, Carson obtained an official
partnership with AccuWeather, Inc. In early 2006, plans for a new
website, the one you're on right now, began. Due to the comments and
feedback from visitors, the new site first hit the web as a beta in
late November of that year. Carson switched over to his own domain,
where you are now, on November 23, 2007. Now, this is the official,
one-and-only site. As of 2010, the website has shown
tremendous growth in hits and views, and is still the number one
independent weather source in Central New York.
